Gmax artificial and natural pitch testing in California

Surface Performance carry out gmax testing in California to test method ASTM F355 to ensure all artificial and natural playing surfaces are in line with ASTM standard F1936.

Gmax testing measures the shock attenuation of a surface. Put simply, it measures the force the surface exerts upon the athlete upon impact. The harder the surface, the higher the gmax rating. ASTM standard F1936 requires a surface has no gmax rating of greater than 200g’s.

Surfaces degrade over time which effect the gmax rating, testing should be carried out 1-2 times per year to ensure player safety is closely monitored.
